camel in the eye of a needle

Ever since I have been studying prosperity and success, I have found that one of the greatest blocks that many people have about financial prosperity is the core belief that having an abundance money or material wealth is not spiritual.

This belief is very pervasive in the world, and it is having a detrimental effect on the quality of most people lives.   Many people have been conditioned by organized religion which propagated this belief through the centuries.

If you have been raised in the Christian faith or Churchianity as I called it, you may have hear or read the verse in the bible which states:

It be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God(Matthew 19:24).

Because of the misinterpretation of this verse, many people are using this  verse in the bible as their excuse for choosing not to be rich or wealthy (financial prosperous).   But, as with all truths, clarification can clear up the confusion.

This verse like many of the verses in the bible was not meant to be translated literally, but metaphorically.  When this verse is taken literally, it is quite obvious that a camel can not could not pass through the eye of needle, but Christ had an entirely different meaning.  Christ was not telling us that rich people can’t enter the Kingdom of God or material riches are evil and rich people are bad.  However, many people who reads or hears this verse make the classic mistake of relating riches in this verse to having MONEY and MATERIAL WEALTH, but this  is an incorrect translation.

So what did Christ mean?

When Christ used the words “rich man”, he was referring to you and me because we are all rich.  You may not agree with the idea that you are rich, but the truth is - if you have attachments to you material possessions or you get your identity (who you believe your are) from your material possession and material wealth, you are rich in Ego, and this is what Christ was alluding to in that verse.

Your Ego is the veil that keeps you separate from your True Self, and if you desire to enter the inner Kingdom and experience peace, joy, and love, you must not be attached to your possession to the point that you are possessed by your possessions.  Although most people tend to associate attachment in terms of physical objects such as money, cars, or houses, it can also apply to mind-states.  These mind-states include attachments such as  your self concept, your limiting beliefs, your victim story, your negative attitude, your poverty consciousness, and your negative emotions.

As long as you remain attached to any limiting idea created by your Ego, you are a rich man or woman who will find it difficult to enter the Kingdom.  Remember, Christ did not say it was impossible to enter the Kingdom, just it is more difficult and hard.  So the moral of this story is that, it is ok to have material wealth, but it is detrimental to you spiritual growth if you become attached to it or if you get you identity from it.

Note, when Christ speaks of Heaven or Kingdom of God, he is referring to the recognition of oneness.  Of course if people are constantly chasing material things, like money, fame, etc, they can never feel that oneness because the Ego always want more and always create the feeling of duality - Me, My, Them,  I have, or I  Don’t have, etc.

If you are currently clinging to your riches or finding your identification with it, let go of it.  I know this is can be very difficult for some people because you believe what you “own” is who you are;  therefore, you may not be willing to give it up.  If you let it go, who would you Be?

A reader to this blog emailed me and asked “is prosperity about being rich and having large sums of money?”  I responded “yes and no”.  Being prosperous is not just about financial abundance, but it is about being happy, joyous, and being in harmony in the five main areas of your life - Spiritual, Financial, Relational, Mental, and Physical well-being.  You can compare being in harmony to a musical symphony in which different instruments are played to create an elegant musical composition.  During the composition, all the instruments contribute to whole; however, not all of them are played in unison or at the same tempo all the time.  Sometimes the bass instruments take the lead in the composition.  Other times, the percussion or the wind instruments take the lead in the composition.  And sometimes, all the instruments are played in unison; however, all the instruments play it part of a magnificent thing called music.

This analogy of a musical symphony is the essence of prosperous living, which is about all the areas of your life moving toward an elegant whole that’s more than the sum of its parts.  Just like the musical symphony, sometimes all the areas of your life are not in balance.  Sometimes your spirituality has the lead the in your life.  Other times, the relational, financial, or physical well-being area of your life is leading.  However, this movement is about having good health and vitality, close relationships with your primary partner (spouse, significant other, etc), your kids and accepting all people in all situations including yourself.  It is about having a spiritual connection to Source (God, Universe, etc) and discovering who you really are, and it is also about being wealthy where you have money to pay for the experiences that you desire in life.  For example, if you want to spend six weeks or more exploring the Caribbean Islands, send you children to the best universities, or donate $100,000 to a charity, you can easily pay for it.

Now there is a misperception about being rich and being wealthy.  When a person is rich, it means this person has a large sum of money for example five million dollars.  However, a rich person has neglected the mental facet of his or her life because most rich people have a scarcity mindset instead of an abundant mindset to handle financial abundance; in this case money.  The abundant mindset is the money beliefs, attitudes, level of consciousness, energy vibrations, and habits to maintain financial abundance.

This scarcity mindset explains why most lottery winners are worst off financially in five years than they were before they won the lottery and why many professional athletes retire broke even though they earned million dollar annual salaries.  Although they have they the money, their scarcity mindset caused them to lose it through bad investments, theft or conversion, and poor money management.

A wealthy person on the other hand has an abundant mindset that is actually a vibratory feeling about prosperity and a trust that there is enough right now and that there is enough for all of us.  And this explains why a wealthy person can lose all his or her money, and usually earn it back in a few years.  When a rich person loses his or her money, this person usually remains stuck in a life of financial struggle.

Furthermore, if all the money in the world was equally divided among all the people, can you predict what would occur?  Within five years, people with an abundant mindset would become wealthy by investing and creating value for other people such as building houses or creating music.  People with a scarcity mindset would become financially mediocre (middle class) or poor because they would go on a spending spree and/or make bad investments that will cause them to lose some or all of the money they received.  This is the Law of Attraction at work.

This principle about wealth applies to all areas of your life.  Just because a person is wealthy, doesn’t necessary mean this person is experiencing prosperous living.  If a person has neglected the physical well-being, spiritual, relational, and/or mental areas of his or her life, this is not experiencing prosperous living.  For example, there are many wealthy people who have toxic relationships with their primary partner or other family members.  There are people who are awakened spiritually; however, they lack the money to buy he experience they want in life.

A truly prosperous person, who experiences harmony in all areas of his or her life, will have a sense of fulfillment and well-being that transcends ephemeral moments of happiness and lopsided achievements in one or two areas of life at the exclusion of the others.

You must understand that all areas of your life are interdependent, and when you focus on each of them, all increase in strength.  As they strengthen, you will begin to experience harmony in all areas of your life.  The result is prosperous living.

Last night, I attended a dinner party where the conservation was primarily about the economy.  Most of the people were complaining about the decline in the stock market, the bank and housing bailouts, and the increasing unemployment.  I could not believe the negativity I was hearing.  Normally I do engage in any conservations about how “Bad It Is” because I know when there is a breakdown in your life, this means that there is opportunity for a breakthrough to something better.

Furthermore, I choose to focus on what I want in my life because what you focus on expands.

If you or I focus on negative crap, that is what we would get - negative crap.

Therefore, if you focus on “the economy is bad, the economy is bad, and the economy is bad!” guess what you get?

You will attract negative financial experiences that show you the economy is “bad”!

For example, you may get downsized in your job, lose money in your retirement accounts, or if you are in sales, you may not reach your sales goals.

Do you see the correlation between you what you are focusing on and what you experiencing in your life?

In January 2007, I made a decision to quit.

I quit watching news on television, reading the news in the newspaper or online, or listening to it on the radio.  I quit these activities because the news media is a contrived industry that just focuses on the negative events in society.  The news puts thoughts in your mind that makes you worry, fearful, scared and anxious.

The news does not have a commitment to the truth.  The news has a commitment to sensationalism or even manufacturing news events which scares the crap out of people and keeps them glued to the TV.  In fact, there are many people who watch CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, and other networks news shows like it is a religion.

They are inundated with the negative things, like who was murdered, who was raped, how Congress plan to take more money from the rich and give it to the “less fortunate”, why it not fair that CEOs are receiving million dollar bonuses, how company XYZ is laying off five thousand workers, etc.

This is entertainment for many people, but they are unaware that they are being programmed with negative information that impact their thoughts and actions; thus what they experience in their lives.

If you watch or listen to the news, do you think it is an empowering strategy for being prosperous and happy?

When I tell people I don’t watch or listen to the news, they ask how do I know what is going on.  It’s easy; if I need to know about a situation such as a hurricane approaching, the people in my life are happy to share it with me.

If you desire be prosperous and happy, I want you to join me in saying,

I QUIT!

  • I quit buying into news stories written by and for broke people.
  • I quit seeking out validation that life is bad and things aren’t good.
  • I quit talking about or focusing on anything that doesn’t make me feel happy, inspired, or wealthy.
  • I quit listening to radio talk shows where people call in and complain about the politicians or the economy. Have you noticed that complaining hasn’t improved your life?
  • I quit participating in any conservation about how the sky is falling.

Instead, I focus on what I want - being prosperous and being happy.

This is not Polly Anna; it’s a practical way to consciously eliminate negativity from your life.

Have an amazing day!

One of my primary intentions is for continuous improvement in all areas of my life- spiritual, physical, financial, relational, and mental; therefore, I have adopted the habit of reading one or more books each month.  I read books on various subjects ranging from personal development and motivation, business and marketing, metaphysics and spirituality to finance and wealth creation, psychology and quantum physics and every category in-between because my life’s focus has become uncovering secrets that allow ordinary people-like you and me-to live extraordinary lives.

Last week, I finished re-reading an excellent book, Your Life, Your Legacy, by Roger Hamilton.  In this book, Roger reveals that there are only eight paths to wealth, and he states that all of the world’s greatest entrepreneurs have built their wealth in only one of eight ways.   By understanding your path, you will discover a natural path of “least resistance” when it comes to creating value and leveraging that value which is an essential component of creating wealth.

This is a fascinating topic, and I highly recommend this book.

You can’t purchase this book from Amazon, so don’t even try.  Instead, go to www.wealthdynamics.org and download a sample of his book.  Even better; buy the book and experience entertaining and thought provoking information which will help you identify and tap into your entrepreneurial “flow”, and change the way you view wealth and life forever.

While you are on Roger’s website, take the Wealth Profile Test. It costs a hundred dollars, but it could put you on your path of least resistance to financial abundance.

I took the test last year and discovered I’m clearly a Lord (with Mechanic leanings).  After making a few changes in my life and doing more things that stay within my profile, I’m making even more money and doing it with even more fun.

Without doubt I believe Roger Hamilton’s Your Life, Your Legacy will become one of the most widely distributed books of the decade.

So, get the book.

 Take the test.

Attract financial abundance.
