A reader to this blog emailed me and asked “is prosperity about being rich and having large sums of money?”  I responded “yes and no”.  Being prosperous is not just about financial abundance, but it is about being happy, joyous, and being in harmony in the five main areas of your life - Spiritual, Financial, Relational, Mental, and Physical well-being.  You can compare being in harmony to a musical symphony in which different instruments are played to create an elegant musical composition.  During the composition, all the instruments contribute to whole; however, not all of them are played in unison or at the same tempo all the time.  Sometimes the bass instruments take the lead in the composition.  Other times, the percussion or the wind instruments take the lead in the composition.  And sometimes, all the instruments are played in unison; however, all the instruments play it part of a magnificent thing called music.

This analogy of a musical symphony is the essence of prosperous living, which is about all the areas of your life moving toward an elegant whole that’s more than the sum of its parts.  Just like the musical symphony, sometimes all the areas of your life are not in balance.  Sometimes your spirituality has the lead the in your life.  Other times, the relational, financial, or physical well-being area of your life is leading.  However, this movement is about having good health and vitality, close relationships with your primary partner (spouse, significant other, etc), your kids and accepting all people in all situations including yourself.  It is about having a spiritual connection to Source (God, Universe, etc) and discovering who you really are, and it is also about being wealthy where you have money to pay for the experiences that you desire in life.  For example, if you want to spend six weeks or more exploring the Caribbean Islands, send you children to the best universities, or donate $100,000 to a charity, you can easily pay for it.

Now there is a misperception about being rich and being wealthy.  When a person is rich, it means this person has a large sum of money for example five million dollars.  However, a rich person has neglected the mental facet of his or her life because most rich people have a scarcity mindset instead of an abundant mindset to handle financial abundance; in this case money.  The abundant mindset is the money beliefs, attitudes, level of consciousness, energy vibrations, and habits to maintain financial abundance.

This scarcity mindset explains why most lottery winners are worst off financially in five years than they were before they won the lottery and why many professional athletes retire broke even though they earned million dollar annual salaries.  Although they have they the money, their scarcity mindset caused them to lose it through bad investments, theft or conversion, and poor money management.

A wealthy person on the other hand has an abundant mindset that is actually a vibratory feeling about prosperity and a trust that there is enough right now and that there is enough for all of us.  And this explains why a wealthy person can lose all his or her money, and usually earn it back in a few years.  When a rich person loses his or her money, this person usually remains stuck in a life of financial struggle.

Furthermore, if all the money in the world was equally divided among all the people, can you predict what would occur?  Within five years, people with an abundant mindset would become wealthy by investing and creating value for other people such as building houses or creating music.  People with a scarcity mindset would become financially mediocre (middle class) or poor because they would go on a spending spree and/or make bad investments that will cause them to lose some or all of the money they received.  This is the Law of Attraction at work.

This principle about wealth applies to all areas of your life.  Just because a person is wealthy, doesn’t necessary mean this person is experiencing prosperous living.  If a person has neglected the physical well-being, spiritual, relational, and/or mental areas of his or her life, this is not experiencing prosperous living.  For example, there are many wealthy people who have toxic relationships with their primary partner or other family members.  There are people who are awakened spiritually; however, they lack the money to buy he experience they want in life.

A truly prosperous person, who experiences harmony in all areas of his or her life, will have a sense of fulfillment and well-being that transcends ephemeral moments of happiness and lopsided achievements in one or two areas of life at the exclusion of the others.

You must understand that all areas of your life are interdependent, and when you focus on each of them, all increase in strength.  As they strengthen, you will begin to experience harmony in all areas of your life.  The result is prosperous living.

Namaste,

RC
